In 2014 I saw Dan Barber‘s TED talk about fish farming and read his opinion piece in the New York Times about What Farm-to-Table Got Wrong, so I asked for his book, The Third Plate: Field Notes on the Future of Food, for Christmas.
I wasn’t disappointed. The Third Plate is made me think – I even took notes on the book for the first time in years. I’ve been inspired to grow more diversity when I garden myself, and eat more varieties of food, not just the few that have made it into a standard North American diet. Shortly after I got home from the holidays I cooked a dinner that involved Amaranth, and there will be more interesting grains and greens on my plate for years to come.
